A Focus Group Discussion on Development of Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan in Lake Toba region (JAKSTRADA)

CCET in partnership with Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) is providing technical support to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Indonesia to develop provincial and local level waste management strategies and action plans in the Lake Toba region (JAKSTRADA). In this context, a focus group discussion was held in the town, Balige near the lake, with the local governments in the region on Oct 10th, 2019 to discuss on how to develop the strategies and action plans. Through this workshop, the local government officials learned the steps to develop the waste management strategy and shared the waste data and their obstacles for proper waste management.

On the same day, the ministry organized a meeting with the youths in the local communities, and at this event, “the Clean Toba Movement” was officially launched. This movement aims at raising awareness and strengthening community efforts to overcome the waste issues and maintain the lake and the surrounding areas clean and beautiful to support the tourism industry.
