The Emission Quantification Tool (EQT) has been developed to support a rapid assessment of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), (i.e, black carbon), associated with municipal solid waste management in a city/country, considering all the phases of the life cycle. Specifically intended for policymakers and practitioners engaged in the municipal solid waste sector, the tool enables users to conduct a baseline estimation of emissions from current waste management that can be measured against several proposed scenarios. The emission estimation results would support for identification of climate-friendly waste management options for a city/country as well as tracking the mitigation progress over time.
EQT was developed by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) on behalf of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition Municipal Solid Waste Initiative (CCAC-MSWI).
Version 1 of the tool was released in January 2017. The current version, version 2.0, was released in September 2018.
