To address emerging waste management issues, the National Waste Management Strategy and Master Plan (2018-2030) was developed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MONREC) with assistance from CCET. The plan aims to build capacity for sustainable waste management and promote development of a conducive policy framework and strategies.

Objective
Description
In February 2020, the Government of Myanmar officially approved and launched its National Waste Management Strategy and Master Plan (NWMSMP, 2018-2030) at the 6th Green Economy Green Growth (GEGG) Forum organized. The NWMSMP was developed by the Environmental Conservation Department (ECD) of MONREC, in collaboration with CCET. The NWMSAP is the first national initiative aiming at institutionalising waste management and as such offers a visionary document and strategic guide for addressing key issues, opportunities and challenges associated with achieving a resource efficient and zero waste society. The government demonstrated the political commitment necessary for expanding waste management services nationwide.
