The plastics value chain is a crucial sector in the ASEAN region, with significant economic and environmental impacts. However, assessing and mitigating the effects of plastics on the environment requires robust data on the material flow through the value chain. This report aims to provide an overview of the data collection capacity and availability related to the plastics value chain in the ASEAN region. The report discusses the limited availability of data on the plastics value chain in the ASEAN region, particularly for the end-of-life phase. To mitigate the environmental impacts of plastics, there is a need for robust data on the material flow through the plastics value chain. ASEAN member states (AMS) can improve data collection by standardizing data collection methods, increasing industry reporting, strengthening waste management systems, and establishing partnerships. These actions will enable AMS to develop effective policies and strategies to mitigate the effects of plastics on the environment.
