The Final Strategy Formulation Workshop for the Development of Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan of Phnom Penh was jointly organized on 9 January 2018 by Phnom Penh Capital Hall (PPCH), IGES-CCET, and Nexus for Development, marking an important milestone for the development of city’s waste management policy. The workshop was the last step of the strategy development process started in October 2016, which included a series of consultative meetings with the relevant stakeholders, and aimed at prioritizing actions, developing an implementation plan (schedule and role demarcation), and setting targets for each action.
Following the opening speech by H.E. Suy Serith, Deputy Governor of Phnom Penh City; Mr. Kazunobu Onogawa, Director of CCET; and Ms. Claire Dufour, Director of Nexus; a Draft Action Plan developed by Drafting Team based on the requests of PPCH as well as discussion results from the previous workshops were presented. Several sub-groups were created for concentrated discussion on implementation plan and target for each waste management topic which constituted five action areas of the Action Plan.
The Draft Strategy and Action Plan will be further modified to reflect the discussion results towards finalization.
