Technical Meeting on Development of National Action Plan on Plastic Waste Management in Sri Lanka

A technical meeting on development of National Action Plan on plastic waste management in Sri Lanka was held on 23 January 2020 at Ministry of Mahawali Development and Environment (MoMDE), Colombo, Sri Lanka. The relevant ministries, organizations, institutions and private sectors were invited in the technical meeting and the meeting was chaired by additional secretary of MoMDE, Mr. M.G.W.M.W.T.B. Dissanayake.

The draft plastic action plan was presented to the technical committee for their feedback.

Workshop on Finalization of Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan (WMSAP) 2020-2030 in Negombo City, Sri Lanka

CCET has been supporting Negombo Municipal Council (NMC) in Sri Lanka with the development of a Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan (WMSAP) 2020-2030. The WMSAP for Negombo provides guidance and a long-term vision to Negombo City for its efforts towards transforming from conventional waste management practices to more sustainable waste management practices.

The Workshop on Promotion of Environmental Education in Primary Schools in Serei Soaphoan Municipality, Canbodia

The workshop to promote environmental education in primary schools was held in Serei Soaphoan Municipality, Banteay Meanchey Province,  Cambodia.

2-3 teachers from 28 local schools participated in the workshop and learned how to enhance proper waste management and eco school through environmental education.The supplemental education tool "Ecology Note" developed by CCET was distributed to the schools and will be utilised to teach waste management.  

Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan for Phnom Penh City, Cambodia

The City Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan of Phnom Penh City, (2018-2035) Cambodia, which was developed by the PPCA with the support of IGES/CCET, NEXUS, UNEP and CCCA was officially launched on 17 Dec 2019 at the Raffles Hotel Le Royal with the participation of H.E. Hout Hai, Deputy Governor, Mr. Kazunobu Onogawa, Director of CCET and other key stakeholders and partners. The strategy provides policy directions under the five strategic actions towards sustainable waste management in the city

At the 9th International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management towards Circular Economy at Kalinaga Institute of Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, India 27-30 November, Mr. Onogawa, director of CCET was honored “life time achievement award 2019” based on his contribution towards achieving sustainable waste and resource management in Asia and the Pacific region.

A Focus Group Discussion on Development of Waste Management Strategy and Action Plan in Lake Toba region (JAKSTRADA)

CCET in partnership with Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) is providing technical support to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Indonesia to develop provincial and local level waste management strategies and action plans in the Lake Toba region (JAKSTRADA). In this context, a focus group discussion was held in the town, Balige near the lake, with the local governments in the region on Oct 10th, 2019 to discuss on how to develop the strategies and action plans.

A Community Event to Award Official Letters to Green Community Leaders in Negambo City, Sri Lanka

IGES Centre Collaborating with UNEP on Environmental Technologies (CCET) and the United Nations Environmental Programme (UN Environment)-International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC) has been working with Negombo Municipal Council (NMC) in developing city waste management strategy from March 2018.

Third Sub-Regional workshop on Preparation of status Report and sub-regional Roadmap for Implementing the Global Waste Management Goals toward Addressing SDGs in South Asia was jointly organized by CCET, SACEP, UNEP-IETC on 16-17 September 2019 at Colombo Sri Lanka, in collaboration with Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Government of Sri Lanka, and Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ).

CCET joined the Biogas Process Council Annual meeting on September 3rd at Hokkaido University, Sapporo

The Biogas Process Council* annual meeting of this year was organized on 3 September 2019 at Hokkaido University, Sapporo. This year meeting gave opportunities to members to share the experience in implementing biogas projects, particularly some cities in Hokkaido, discuss challenges and opportunities faced by the biogas sector, including the issues related to Feed in Tariff (FIT) and availability of government support schemes to promote biogas.
